my swim lesson experience

well, i promised i'd post about my swim lesson experience. and i finally am {extremely late, though}.

i have no clue how old i was when i went, but i'm guessing around 6. so older than addison, but not that old. my granny took me to a couple different places for swim lessons before then. and guess what. i never learned how to swim.

they would never make me get in the pool, so i'd just sit on the side.

i have no clue how my mom heard of ms. carolyn. but that's where i went and actually learned how to swim.

i remember my first day still. maybe not the whole day, just one part.

my dad took me that day. the deal is that parents can't hang around and watch the kids. at least not where the kids can see the parents.

so i was dropped off and was waiting to start my lesson. i guess we were all supposed to start getting in the pool, or the class before me was ending. either way, there was a little girl that didn't want to get in the pool. she was crying and refused to jump in. ms. carolyn went and tried to get her to jump in, and she wouldn't. so ms. carolyn picked her up and tossed her in.

my dad says that my head spun around so fast looking for him. he was on top of the carport {there's a deck up there}, and he just backed up so i couldn't see him.

trust me. when it was my turn to do ANYTHING, i did it. no hesitation.

i learned how to swim that week. i still remember being told to jump in the pool and roll over to my back {like what addison was learning}.

i ended up taking more swim lessons from her {i really don't remember how many, though}. i became a different kid in the pool after lessons. before, i was scared to jump into the pool, even if someone was there to catch me. after, i wanted to jump in all the time and show off my swim skills.

i'm so glad my parents took me there, even though it was kind of traumatizing the first day. but it's a story i will always remember and laugh about.

i hope addison continues to have fun from now on at class. i'm sure she will. i can't wait until she can really swim in the water! i'm sure it will be sooner than later.

elmo!!!

2 weeks ago, we went to see elmo.

i was kind of excited. sad, huh?

definitely not as excited as addison though! it was the first time addison had ever been to something big like that, so it was really exciting for all of us.

we had been telling her about it for about a week, and about 100 times a day she'd ask about going to see elmo. i made a countdown and put it on the fridge so she could see how many days were left. that kind of helped.

the day of elmo, i was kind of nervous about how it would be. i figured addison would be fine, but she had never been to anything like that before so i wasn't sure.

of course she dressed super cute to see elmo!! she wanted to impress him :)



she even posed with me. and i got kisses!!!



she was SO excited when we got there. she got some prizes {an elmo light up toy and a t-shirt}.


the show was about elmo and his friends, so there were a lot of life sized sesame street characters there in addison to elmo. i honestly can't imagine being in those getups, but i could imagine it was going to be really hot. and i don't see how they dance so well. i'd be falling all over the place. oh well. they were great, and addison loved it. that's all that matters!!




i didn't take my camera in because i didn't want to have to keep up with it. so the pictures of everything there were from my phone.

it was good because it was loud with all the other kids so i didn't have to really worry about addison talking or getting excited.

i'm thinking maybe we can go see a movie next! who knows. we're just doing more and more fun things nowadays!!

she's back!!!

addison had a playmate there too {her cousin}. clearly she had lots of fun and was worn out.

i'm so excited that she's back!! now it's time for lots of cuddling and playing.

monday


monday started out with addison double fisting her milk and water. she's a champ. she had swim lessons that afternoon. after her nap, we went to visit granny and addison insisted on pushing granny's wheelchair around her room.

tuesday


tuesday morning we had a crazy storm. it woke me up pretty early and i almost got in the closet to take cover. but i didn't. part of the tree in the front yard was down though :( addison had swim lessons again, and started to improve!! we made our weekly trip to the mexican restaurant, and this week addison decided to get a giraffe.

wednesday

well, i kind of slacked for wednesday. we didn't do anything too exciting. addison had swim lessons, and i went with her and my mom. she did so great! then i had class that night, so i didn't do anything thrilling.

thursday


thursday addison had to go to swim lessons twice since she was going to miss class on friday. so i took her to the morning class. she didn't do too hot. but she was great for the afternoon class {of course, the one i don't go to!} i had class and a big test that night, so i spent most of the afternoon studying. my mom sent me the second picture while i was in class. addison didn't want to nap so she decided to surround herself with her animals. that girl is a silly one.

friday

friday didn't really go the way i had planned/expected. addison left with her dad to go to savannah for the 4th. it's the first time addison has left, and the longest i've been away from her :( any way, a few hours after they left, chris called and said his car broke down in chattanooga. they were going to fix it, but it was going to be around 2 hours. i was just glad they were ok and were in the city so they could stop somewhere.

i got a call a little bit later, and they don't have the part they need. it won't come in for a week. that wasn't exactly going to work. so, i took my mom's car down to chattanooga {about 2 hours away} so chris could drive that down to savannah. my dad was going to come pick me up in chattanooga and drive me back.

well, the 2 hour drive down turned into around 3.5 hours because there was a really bad wreck and the interstate was closed at one point. needless to say, i got a little emotional. but i finally made it and got to see addison for a little bit. we all got a bite to eat and then chris and addison were off to savannah {7 hours later}. i wondered around hobby lobby and best buy until my dad and stepmom picked me up and then we headed home.

it was all worth it because addison is now having fun on the beach with her daddy. she's coming back tomorrow, though, and i can't wait!! i'm so excited to see her. but i may be a little jealous that she's tanner than me :)

swim lessons - week 2

after last week, we decided to enroll addison in swim lessons again this week. same place, just in the afternoon {that's the only time they had an opening}.

my mom took her again on monday and tuesday. i don't really remember how those days went. my mom didn't really stick around and watch, just because there was no point if addison was going to be upset.

but tuesday, after class, the teachers said addison did really well. my mom watched her towards the end, and there was no crying {from addison, at least}. HUGE improvement.

so, i decided to go wednesday.

oh. my. gosh.

totally different child.

she did AMAZING. so great.

she started to really like one of the teachers, so she would stick with her for most of the class. all last week, addison was floating on her back with a life jacket on. this time, no life jacket at all. she did it all by herself.

she even jumped in the pool and floated by herself. and off the diving board. and she was happy!!!








see? happy child. no crying. paid attention. even laughed!!

she had to go twice yesterday because she couldn't go today. she went in the morning and then in the afternoon to her regular class.

i took her by myself yesterday morning, thinking it would be fine.

well, she wasn't really fine. she cried most of the time. but it was because she had to poop {we have some poop issues around here. by we, i mean she}. but we had that issue resolved by her next class. my mom took her then because i needed to go to school, but my mom said she did fabulous. she sent me 2 videos and they made me so happy!!

here they are. totally different child from last time. the videos are from an iphone so it may be hard to see. especially in the first one.


addison is the one on the diving board. you can see her come up and float all by herself without a life jacket. yay!!! such a big girl.


on the last day, the teachers take the kids diving for rings. since yesterday was addison's last day, her favorite teacher took her diving for rings. they did it just for her since she wasn't going to be there today. so sweet! addison was so excited.

i am SO glad addison finally warmed up to swim lessons. she really had fun the last few days. and she did so well.

i think i'm going to take her back a little later this summer for more lessons. just one more week probably. but they'll start teaching her how to actually swim, which will be really exciting!!
