yesterday, i had a first.

i saw a movie.

all by myself.



i'm not going to lie. i was kind of looking forward to it.

i took some grapes and cheese for a snack. and some water. i thought about taking wine, but then i thought that it may be a little early in the day to drink {but really, is it ever too early to drink??}.

it was a matinee movie {on a monday, no less}, so i knew there was a possibility that i'd be the only one in there. and that would have been pretty cool. i could've done anything i wanted!! not that there was anything excited i wanted to do in a movie theater by myself.

but, there were 2 other girls in the theater when i got there. and 2 older ladies came in later and sat behind me.

the movie didn't look all that great. but i had finished the book the night before and really wanted to see it.

it wasn't really that bad. it had cheesy moments. i found myself rolling my eyes every time there was a romantic scene. but that's just me, i think.

sitting right in front of the old ladies was entertaining. they were about my granny's age. and they had clearly read the books, because they were chatting throughout the movie. just little things. it was especially funny during the steamy scenes. it felt awkward sitting close to them during those. but funny at the same time, because they had read the books.

this was the first nicholas sparks book/movie that i didn't cry reading/watching. i'm seriously a softy when it comes to books and movies. but this one didn't make me cry. i kind of felt that it was an accomplishment. go me!!

i definitely don't think it will be the last time i go to the movie by myself. it was really relaxing. i do prefer to have friends with me, but something it's nice to just be all by yourself.

now off to find some other books to read!

recent reads

i thought i'd do a post on some of my recent reads.

i've been kind of a book worm since school started to slow down a bit. and now that i don't have school and work, i've been reading a lot. i start back at work the 21st and school the 29th, so i'm trying to get all my reading in before then.

1 - 3 // mr. grey


i had NO idea what these books were about. i had seem the name tossed around on blogs and twitter, and i thought it'd give it a go.

well, i was definitely shocked!! but i loved the books. i read all 3 in less than a week.

just a warning for those who haven't read it and haven't heard anything about it...they're, um, how do you say? dirty. yes, that. and probably a bunch of other words that i don't want to say because i know my dad is reading this.

i've told all my friends about the books, and i've gotten a few of them hooked. you're welcome, friends!

4 - 5 // divergent & insurgent


i heard about divergent right as i finished the hunger games series. i was looking for something else to read that was similar to the hunger games, and this hit the nail on the head.

it's really different from the hunger games, but still kind of has that feel. lots of exciting stuff. action and love.

the second book didn't come out until the beginning of may {so just a few days ago}, so i had to be patient and wait for it.

i don't like waiting.

as soon as it came out, i bought it. i decided to re-read divergent so it would be fresh on my mind.

insurgent didn't disappoint! it was even more action than the first.

definitely a good read, especially if you liked the hunger games.

6 // the vow


i read this just because of the movie. i thought it would be interesting.

it wasn't really all that great. at least not to me. i enjoyed learning about the story, but nothing really beyond that.

i'm curious about the movie. i haven't seen it yet, but i'm going to watch it and see how well it portrays the book.

7 // water for elephants


i never saw the movie, but really wanted to. i knew it was a book, but i forgot until just recently.

i thought it would be a good book to read by the pool. i started it the other day, and will hopefully finish it over the weekend.

so far, it's pretty good. it's starting to get more exciting. i can't wait to finish it and watch the movie!!

8 // the lucky one


yes, i'm all about books that have movies based on them.

my friends told me this book was really good, and i'm all about nicholas sparks, so it's next on my list of books to read. actually, it's the only one that i haven't read in this list.

i already bought it, so as soon as i finish water for elephants, i will be starting it!

the movie doesn't really look all that good to me. not sure if i'll go see it. but i'll definitely read the book!

in gigi's shoes

addison loves putting on shoes. especially ones that aren't hers.

she tries to walk around with my flip flops on, and it's pretty funny to watch.

she put my mom's tennis shoes on last night and walked around for a while in them.



then she ran to me...


...and fell.


it wore her out, so she took a juice break. she took the shoes off, but then decided she wanted to have one on.










then she got her book that has the buttons that make noise. she loves that thing. she just sits and flips through it and pushes random buttons.





i've been pretty busy this weekend and i'm going to be busy this week. i'm trying to catch up on blogs and get them finished before school starts. i'll try to still blog some, with pictures of course!

sundays at tiffany's

i've had a few friends recommend that i read sundays at tiffany's. and since i got a gift card for barnes and noble for mother's day, i thought why not?


i started it on saturday afternoon and finished it sunday night. i always do that. i start a book and get sucked in, and i can't stop until i finish it. i think i may need to start going to the library because my reading habit may get pricey.

anyway, when i first started the book, i didn't know if it was going to be very good. i was kind of skeptical and didn't know if i was going to like it. but i'm so glad i kept reading! it was so good. i'm so glad i finally read a book with a happy ending!

i would definitely recommend this book!!

while i was at barnes and noble, i picked up the lovely bones as well. i haven't started it yet, but i'm excited to read it. i'm also going to get the new sookie stackhouse book and possible something borrowed and something blue. i'm still open to any suggestions. i like pretty much anything!

summer reads

it's officially summer! i've finished everything...yay!!

now, what to do?

well, for one, i'm going to have more time to do blogs. i would usually do homework while addison was napping, but now i'll be able to do blogs while she naps!

i really want to do some reading, too. and that's where you come in!

do you have any books you would recommend? i know i'm going to read the new sookie stackhouse book and sundays at tiffany's, but those are the only 2 i have picked out so far. help?! it will be much appreciated :)

goosebumps

i've always been a fan of Nicholas Sparks. i read A Walk to Remember and The Notebook years ago, and i loved the books as well as the movies.

when i saw a preview for Dear John and learned it was based off a book by Nicholas Sparks, i decided i wanted to read it. i've been anticipating the movie coming out for a while, even before reading the book.

well, i finally read the book. it took me 3 days to read it. i just started reading a couldn't stop.

another thing i couldn't stop doing was cry. the book just made me cry and cry and cry.

i hate books that make me cry like that, but i really loved the book. i guess me and Nicholas Sparks have a love/hate relationship.

i'm a big fan of books with happy endings. this book didn't have my definition of a fairytale ending, even though i wanted it to. i found myself making up an ending that would make me happy, but i really couldn't. i just kept going back to what actually happened.

i sometimes wonder why books can make me so emotional. i know they aren't based on true stories, so i don't really know why i get so sad. i try to tell myself that it didn't really happen, but it doesn't help. i get so wrapped up in the book that i feel like it's really happening and i just get so emotional!




i've seen the preview for Dear John 50 bzillion times already. and surprisingly, it doesn't get old. i watch it every time i hear it coming on. and every single time i get goosebumps. i guess it's because i know everything that happens. sometimes i feel like i'm going to cry while watching the 2 minute preview. sad, i know.

friday i'm going to see the movie and get it over with. i say get it over with as if i'm not excited. i'm really excited, but i know i'm going to cry. a lot. so i'm kind of ready to get the crying over with.

i'm going with one of my friends from my biology class. she's the one who told me Dear John was a book and told me i needed to read it. so we're going together, and we'll probably both be crying together. hopefully she doesn't mind sniffles!!

i'll make sure to let you know how the movie is. all of the Nicholas Sparks books that have been made into movies are pretty much exactly like the book, which i really like. i don't really like when movies are changed and don't really follow the book. we'll see how this one goes!

new moon

i'm really not a fan of the MTV movie awards, but i watched it for one reason. the new moon preview. one of the MTV awards (who can keep up with them all. they have so many) gave the first look at new moon a while ago. of course i watched that too. i am kind of obsessed. i saw twilight 5 times. and i didn't even think it was that good. i just loved the book, so i wanted to see the movie...a lot. i can't imagine how many times i'm going to see new moon.

supposedly, new moon is going to premiere early in knoxville at the big theater there. and they say the actors are going to be there. they haven't said which ones, and i have no clue how to get tickets. but i really want to go. and some of my friends want to go too. a few of them live in knoxville, so that's quite convenient for me. we'll see how that works out.

if you haven't read the books, you really should. it makes some parts of the movie have meaning that wouldn't have if you hadn't read about it.

oh, and here's a fun fact. addison was born the same day that twilight came out in theaters!

sunday reading...kind of

well, i haven't actually read a book this week. unless you count three 15 page articles for my history classes as reading a book. reading those isn't exactly what i would consider enjoyable.


i really want to read the book wicked is based on. it's called Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. i haven't been to a musical in years. and i really don't remember the ones i've been to. i remember going, but i don't remember the whole thing. i didn't know if i would like wicked last night. but i was excited to go. everyone i know that has gone has said it was great. and it really was. i was watching it thinking 'i wish i could sing and dance like them'. ha. i only think that while i was watching the play. it just looks like a lot of fun. maybe i'll go to more musicals.

while i was out last night, addison got to spend the night with my dad. she's really good with all of her family. my dad said she did great and didn't have trouble with her at all. i missed her, even though i was only gone from her for about 14 hours. and 11 of those she was asleep.

she was super excited to come home though. she has started to scream when she sees chris. it's like she gets so excited she can't control it. she doesn't scream when she sees me. she just cries if she can't see me.

i think she missed her jumper last night too. she has been going crazy in that thing lately. we put her in there, and she'll jump non stop. she just keeps going. she never jumped before. once she had her cast, she started to jump with her good leg. and now that she doesn't have a cast, she can definitely jump.

i'm still pretty hung up on her crawling. i hope she does sometime soon. i don't really want her to skip to walking. maybe she will though. i know i say i want her to crawl, but once it happens i'll probably be biting my tongue.

i still haven't read a new book. and i probably won't be able to for a while. school starts tomorrow...boo. but i'll still try to do 'sunday reading' on books that i've read recently.

there isn't going to be anything today, though. had a lot going on today, and am pretty tired now. i'll post some new pics tomorrow though!

sunday reading

i wasn't able to find a book to read this past week, so i'm just going to write about one that i have read recently. well, in this case, it's five books. but they're all in a series.




like i said before, i started reading books that were going to be made into movies. so once i saw that there was going to be a movie called Confessions of a Shopaholic, i KNEW that i had to read that book. obviously i'm a woman, so shopping just comes naturally to me. i'm not exactly a shopaholic, but i do like to go shopping every once in a while.

what i didn't know when i started reading is that there are actually five shopaholic books. first, of course, is Confessions of a Shopaholic. then comes Shopaholic Takes Manhattan, Shopaholic Ties the Knot, Shopaholic & Sister and Shopaholic & Baby.

of course i read them all. i mean, once you start one, you have to finish the series! all the books were really cute. kind of fairy tale, without the magical stuff. it has just the right amount of drama, heartbreak, friendship and shopping, naturally.

i had just finished reading the Twilight series when i started reading Shopaholic, so it was a really nice break from all the vampire books. it's just a feel good book. makes you happy, sometimes sad. kind of what you (and i) always wish would happen.

now on to the movie. hmmm, where to start. well, the movie sucked if you actually read the books. it would have probably been cute if i hadn't read the books, but i did read the books. so it wasn't very good to me. the movie crammed five 200 something page books into a 2 hour movie. they left a ton of important information out, and the movie just moved WAY too fast. i like both Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy, but the movie just sucked. i know, i've said that A LOT. but the movie really did SUCK! so, go watch the movie first, then read the books. that way, the movie won't be totally ruined for you!


and as i said before, if you have any suggestions of a good book i could read, just let me know! it can be one book or a series! i'm up for any challenge :)

sunday reading

so i've decided that sundays are going to be about a book (or books) that i have read or am reading. this will be my day to talk about something i'm doing. and since i've been reading a lot lately (weird, right??), it should be easy for me to have a different book every week.

the most recent book i read was the time traveler's wife. the only reason i started reading it was because i saw it was going to be made into a movie. i wanted to read the book before i saw the movie, so i would know what to expect. let me just go ahead and tell you, the book was quite confusing. at least at first. once i got the hang of the way the book was formatted, it wasn't as hard to read. but you really have to think and figure out the different years and think 'what happened then?'. ok, i'm getting a little too into the book. i will say, it's got its sad parts. but most of the books i've read do have some sad parts. i do think it was a great book, and would encourage you to read it (it is kind of a girly book though).

i went to see the movie last night. i had seen the previews about a million times, and wanted to cry every time i saw it. having that said, i tried to mentally prepare myself for the movie. i will tell you, it wasn't near as sad as i thought it would be. the movie left out some of the things i thought were important in the book, but i know they can't always fit everything in the 2 hours of the movie. as usual, the book was better than the movie. but it was still a good movie. i would encourage you to read the book before seeing the movie, because books always have more detail in them than the movies do.
